AFTERCARE

Now that you have a luxurious set of Extensionaire Hair please keep in mind that they need extra care and love. Let’s face it, extensions are expensive, and in order to protect and lengthen the life of your hair, we recommend that you  follow the AFTERCARE Instructions:

  • Do not wash your hair for 24-48 hours after initial tape installation. Wefts can be washed immediately.
  • Before washing extensions, always brush from the ends of the hair to roots/scalp. This is to ensure that there will be no knotting of the hair when you wash it.
  • Wash with Sulfate FREE shampoo and conditioner.
  • Oil the mid to ends of the hair at least once a day. Avoid the root area of hair.
  • Air dried hair is fine, but make sure to blow dry the tape area to ensure no moisture leaks into the tape, causing lifting. Blow dry the top of weft so it does not hold moisture. DO NOT towel rub your hair extensions! This will cause friction damage. Gently press the towel against your hair and squeeze.
  • Hair extensions are NOT for the WASH AND GO lifestyle, they need to styled DAILY.
  • We strongly advise that you use a heat protection on your hair extensions. Keep in mind that it can become very easy to over product your hair extensions and this is when they can become drier, start matting and even start breaking.
  • Heat tools should not exceed 180°
  • Sleep in a low braid or ponytail & sleep on a silk or satin pillow case.
  • Brush from the ends of your hair moving upward. Brush a few times a day to prevent tangling.
  • When swimming, coat your hair in conditioner and wear in a braid or loose, high bun.
  • We have noticed that water with high mineral content can strip natural and extension hair of colour and nutrients. Salt water and chlorine can strip hair of colour .Avoid sunscreen touching your extensions.

TAPE EXTENSIONS – Tape extensions should be washed no more than twice a week.

  • Wash in a downwards motion, allowing the water to flow from roots to the ends of your hair. Gently massage the scalp ensuring you reach underneath each tape.
  • Conditioner and any other moisturizing oils only need to be applied from the neck area down. We advise using a deep condition /mask every second wash as this can help prolong the life of your hair extensions. Do not apply conditioner directly to the tape area.
  • Style your extensions once 100% dry, use a flat/steam/curling iron to smooth out, and give your extensions that sleek finish.
  • Maintenance should be done every 6-8 weeks, book your appointment in advance.

READY TO WEAR EXTENSIONS – Clip-in, Halo, Topper & Ponytail hair extensions don’t get as oily as your natural hair, as it is not attached by your scalp and therefore doesn’t need to be washed as often as professional hair extensions.

READY TO WEAR Extensions can be washed every 15 wears, depending on how much product you use on them.

  • Fill your sink with luke-warm water, squeeze a decent amount of shampoo into the water and mix to ensure the product is evenly dispersed.
  • Hold the top of the extensions in one hand and dunk the hair into the water, gently working the shampoo into the hair with your fingers.
  • Empty the sink and rinse the hair till the water runs clear.
  • Take a generous amount of conditioner and apply evenly on the hair, from top to bottom, massaging the product thoroughly into the hair.
  • We recommend leaving it on for at least an hour or overnight.
  • Rinse the hair thoroughly. Use cold water on the hair for the last 10 seconds, this will help close the cuticles, sealing in moisture.
  • READY TO WEAR hair extensions don’t necessarily have to be heat styled every wear, as you remove them before bed and can store them and re-apply the next morning

Hair Extensions are human hair that have been colored and processed to achieve the desired result. Because of this, they WILL fade over time just like regular colored hair does. Using clarifying shampoo’s to remove product build up, purple shampoo to tone at home and toning the extensions with
demi permanent professional color at every maintenance appointment will help with this. Extensionaire Hair can be coloured but at OWN RISK, we suggest that you do a strand test before colouring all the extensions. Only use Semi/Demi Permenant colours. WE DO NOT recomend any bleaching or lightning on our hair extensions.

You can swim with hair extensions, but please do take care. Here is what we suggest:

  • Wet your hair extensions and apply Argan Oil/leave-in conditioner.
  • Apply as close as possible to the top of the tape/weft without actually applying any to the tapes/weft.
  • After swimming rinse your hair extensions at the poolside shower or use bottled water.
  • Wash and deep condition your hair extensions the same night you went for a swim in salt or chlorine water.

Swimmimg with clip-in hair extensions may be tricky as you would add weight to the clips and tug at your folicles causing discomfort, or worse a weave floating in the water. If you do end up at the poolside or the beach with your clip-in extensions we would advise that you tie them in a plait/low bun and avoid wetting them .

Your Shampoo and Conditioner MUST be sulphate free! Extensionaire ARGAN OIL Sulphate-free formula is perfectly produced to feed and keep your hair extensions healthy.

It is important to check the ingredients of any hair product that you use on your hair extensions, as products may state that it is sulphate-free and can then be packed with protein/keratin. Even though protein and keratin works wonders on our natural hair, the effect on hair extensions can be the complete opposite.

The proper hair products make all the difference in whether your extensions will tangle or be soft and manageable.

Purchase products specifically formulated for dry and damaged hair, as they will help keep the strands healthy and nourished. Also, look for products that add moisture to the hair like argan oil, coconut oil, and castor oil. Purchasing sulfate and alcohol-free products is a necessity as they are imperative to maintain the health of your extensions. These ingredients strip the hair of its natural oils and will affect their integrity. This, in turn, makes the hair drier and more prone to tangling or matting.

Extensionaire tape is extremely durable and will last for the duration of its 6-8 week wear (as long as the scalp does not become excessively oily, the bonds will stay). You can swim, workout and go on vacation, and not have to worry about your extensions slipping.

Extensionaire Professional extensions will  last 9-12 months with proper aftercare.

Ready to Wear extensions will last 12-18 months with proper care.  Hair care instructions are provided with each extension order.

One of the most beneficial things you can do to maintain the health of your hair and extensions is to sleep on a satin pillowcase.

HEALTHY HAIR

When you cover your hair with satin, the fabric acts as a barrier against moisture-absorbing fabrics like cotton. This prevent split ends caused by hair drying out. Your curls stay fresher longer, and maintain the moisture produced by the natural oils or added hydration.

BREAKAGE PREVENTION

Cotton and other fabrics typically used for sheets are moisture-absorbing and can cause friction when our curls rub against them. This leads to breakage. We want our curls to grow not break off. Satin prevents this from happening, along with a good hair care regimen.

 NEATER MANAGEABLE HAIR

No more frizzy hair! And even when you have your hair in a braid, satin is a smooth fabric that helps keep hair neat and in place.

 SAVES YOU MONEY

Healthier Hair, Longer-lasting hairstyles =  saving you money.

BRUSH YOUR HAIR OFTEN

The first and quite possibly one of the most important steps is to brush your extensions out before washing them and once they are 90% dry.

This helps minimize the possibility of breakage and shedding because the hair is at its weakest point when wet. Keep in mind it is also more susceptible to breakage when wet.

Use your fingers to gently loosen any tangles. Always gently brush your extensions starting at the ends and making your way up to the roots.

KEEP YOUR HAIR EXTENSIONS MOISTURIZED

Keeping your extensions moisturized and nourished is crucial, considering they don’t have a natural hydration source like your own hair does. If you are brushing your extensions throughout the day and you seem to notice dryness or some minor breakage, apply a pearl-size amount of a lightweight or water-based hair serum or a lightweight oil, like argan oil. Always ensure you apply it from the midsection of the hair down to the ends and follow by brushing the extensions to evenly distribute the product throughout. Remember, less is more. You do not need to apply a hair oil daily, as this can cause buildup on your extensions. Instead, you apply it once a week or when you notice significant tangling and dryness.

LIMIT HEAT STYLING AND ALWAYS USE A HEAT PROTECTANT

We do not recommend blow drying your extensions after every wash as doing this constantly will make them dry and more vulnerable to breakage.

If you can avoid it, we highly recommend air drying your extensions, if time permits.  Always use a heat protectant spray prior to using any heat styling tool to extend the lifespan of your hair extensions.
